About the University

The University of Hawaii (UH) System is the public system of higher education in the State of Hawaii. It includes ten campuses with a total enrollment of 50,569 students. The UH system began in 1907 with the establishment of its main campus at Manoa as a land grant college of agriculture and mechanic arts. Today, the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) is a research university of international standing. Enrollment at UHM totals 20,549 of which 6,298 students are enrolled in graduate degree programs. The UH system and UHM are accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Located at UHM, the School of Travel Industry Management (TIM) is recognized as a leading educational institution in hospitality, tourism and transportation management. TIM pioneered the concept of integrating all aspects of the travel industry under a single discipline. The School is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA) and has earned the Tourism Education Quality (TedQual) certificate designation by the World Tourism Organization. TIM offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree and Master of Science (MS) degree in Travel Industry Management.

About the MS Degree Program

The Master of Science degree program in travel industry management will be offered in Singapore with support and assistance from the Center for American Education. The goals and objectives of the program in Singapore are identical to those for the on-campus program. That is, the program is designed to provide a specialized education through coursework and research to master a broad and sophisticated set of interdisciplinary skills and knowledge. The curriculum has an international perspective focusing on global issues affecting and shaping the industry.

The program prepares students for advanced careers and leadership roles across the spectrum of the travel industry including tourism, hospitality and transportation management as well as integrating the entire industry including information technology, finance, marketing, policy and planning. Students also may explore specific topics of interest including sustainable tourism, cultural heritage tourism and service quality management. The program and faculty have a strong emphasis and expertise in travel and tourism in the Asia-Pacific region.

Students in the Master of Science in Travel Industry Management Singapore program will receive the exact same curriculum and degree offered to students who study on campus at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM). Courses are taught by UHM's faculty.

There will be nine on-site courses and three on-line courses. Courses will be taught one at a time over an 18-month period. On-site courses will involve pre-contact discussion and preparation of students for two weeks; on-site accelerated 36 hours of instruction within a 15-day period; and post-contact of two weeks for completion of major projects, discussions and final examinations. Total instructional hours for pre-contact, on-site and post contact will be a minimum of 44 hours. Online courses are scheduled to be taught in eight-week modules involving 44 hours of instruction.
